In West Knoxville are the older, more established neighborhoods of Sequoyah Hills, Westmoreland, West Hills and River Bend. They are nestled along the Tennessee River close to the University of Tennessee campus. Sequoyah Hills is definitely upscale with spacious, more expensive homes that boast large manicured lawns. To access this neighborhood from Knoxville proper, you can use Kingston Pike, a major thoroughfare.
The fabulous trail known as Sequoyah Greenway, conveniently located in the median of Cherokee Boulevard, traverses Sequoyah Hills. The trail is nearly three miles long and connects the Third Creek Greenway across Kingston Pike to the parks found in the neighborhood. The path is frequented by dog walkers and runners. Sequoyah Hills Park is the largest of three parks, with 87 acres for leisure and recreational activities, boasting baseball fields, picnic areas, and a playground. The Tennessee River borders the park and makes for some very nice serene views.
West Hills is home to the West Town Mall, an indoor affair anchored by several major department stores. Conveniently located off I-40, West Hills is prestigious enough to have its own off-ramp.
